On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force. Countries and regions are now developing their strategies for a successful implementation of the SDGs.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary and with a long standing work in promoting sustainable development across all sectors HBLF would like to contribute to the discussion of  European state and non-state actors, to ‘rethink Europe’ in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, building on the working paper attached Transforming Our Europe. The title is inspired by the UN Agenda 2030 Transforming Our World. The paper, Transforming Our Europe as presents a new narrative of an ‘ambitious Europe’ which puts the EU in a position of global leadership. Europe is prepared to lead the re-orientation of globalization and the effective implementation of the UNSDG 2030 Agenda.

The initiative encourage alliances of European state actors (institutions, governments, parliaments) and non-state actors (regions, cities, businesses, financiers, civil society) to reach the SDG targets. During the roundtable discussion we would introduce the initiative, invite partners, experts in the field to share experiences, best practices and identify areas for partnerships and joint action for the future.
